McDonalds...all about the meat!

On Tuesday night…..after my Blackberry being eaten by the dog incident I was in a foul mood and after spending an hour at Vodaphone after work trying to sort out the problem decided I couldn’t be bothered to cook and would go to McDonalds. I hardly ever go there..perhaps a few times a year because I’m a veggie (and have been for 13 years) and McDonalds…well it’s all about the meat!

I ordered a spicy veggie deli sandwich and it came out straight away looking as it always does and labelled correctly and in the correct packaging. I was only when I got half way through eating it (it was covered in the sauce and lettuce and in a similar coating so I did not realise until the inside of the offending patty was visible) that Mr W screamed  “H, are you sure that’s a vegetarian sandwhich?!..do not put any more in your mouth!” that I realised it was in fact chicken that I had been eating and not a the vegetarian sandwhich! (I admit it tasted a little different but certainly not like meat)

Horrified I ran to the toilet and promptly threw up whereby the Manager followed me with a glass of water. On speaking to her in tears she offered me an apology, said that it was a kitchen error and offered me a free ice cream to compensate. I did not take her up on her offer of a free ice cream or replacement meal or even the two vouchers for two free meals that she offered me after much more distressed crying by myself (the rest of the customers at this point found this all highly amusing).

I’m so horrified that an error by their kitchen staff has resulted in me being given meat to eat incorrectly labelled as something suitable for a vegetarian. It was not the fault of the server as my order was taken correctly but the fault of whoever in the kitchen placed the wrong chicken in the wrong packaging.

I spent the evening after eating the offending ‘chicken’ item being sick, feeling nauseas and generally being really really pissed off.

An email and telephone calls to the Business Manager of the branch has so far gone unanswered

A few people have told me to sue or ask for monetary compensation…….what would you do?

It's absolute bullshit.

If you're going to go for money, you'll need some damning evidence, did you save the wrapper or the sandwich?

Take notes of the times you've called and how they haven't called back.

Contact a higher office than the branch. Threaten to tell the newspaper (and actually consider telling them).

Bringing a court case against them can be expensive, and you'll most likely only recoup legal fees by suing mcdonalds for them after you've hoperfully won.

I'd love to see you get something to compensate you for this experience.

Yes I saved the wrapper and the left over chicken..its currently sat in my fridge.

I expect someone (namely the 17yr old kitchen staff) would have already had a severe bollocking by this and I was going to let that be it but then thought..fuck it....They have undone my 13 years of non meat eating.

Hopefully they'll get back to me this week else I'll be going to the papers. I don't want to be an irritating amulance chaser (God I hate 'those' people) but they need to know that what they did was actually really distressing for me.

can't imagine it was a nice experience, and yeah, well obviously it wasn't, but i wouldn't bother suing them, sounds like a lot of hassle really (and money involved) - and i guess going to the papers, well that would probably involve having your face in there... not sure i'd want that personally!

That's terrible that they could make a mistake like that! And the problem is it's so hard to tell whether it's veggie or not in places like McDs because everything that isn't a beef burger pretty much looks the same!

OMG the exact same thing happened to me the other day! I actually realised as soon as I took one bite that it was chicken. And I spent the rest of the night feeling sick too. We emailed and complained but no reply as yet, but then it was only the other day. Lots of other people have been saying it happened to them as well (http://nicsnotebook.com/2010/10/17/vegetarians-dont-eat-chicken/) - maybe we should all write a nasty letter and sign it??
